Présentation
The “Dienville Animations, Culture and Heritage” association presents its third booklet of Dienville residents’ wartime memories: “The Notebooks of Pierre Benoît, May 1944 / April 1945.” Written between May 1944 and April 1945, the notebooks of a young Dienville resident recount life in the village, the bombings, the Liberation, the involvement of young patriots, the flooding of winter 1944, the reconstruction of the bridge, activities around the ammunition depots in the forest, and the return of deportees and prisoners. They also include information broadcast on the radio about military operations and international meetings during the final year of fighting. Many of us are unaware of the extent of the destruction and the staggering number of victims of this war, which became a global conflict. Pierre Benoît’s diary fills in the gaps in our knowledge. During this afternoon presentation, you can explore the exhibition “World War II in Dienville” and attend a reading of period texts and songs at 3 p.m. The booklet will be available for purchase from November 24th at the Nougatine shop in Dienville, as well as at 16 rue de la Pellière in Dienville and at the Maison de la Presse in Brienne-le-Château.
