JNA : Portes ouvertes – JC K-BÔ

Présentation

As part of the National Artists’ Days, themed “Art Within Reach,” immerse yourself in the world of artist JC – K-BÔ during these unique open studio events! Jean-Claude K-BÔ is a Guadeloupean artist, painter and sculptor, who lives and works in Paris and whose work is deeply influenced by Caribbean and Afro-Caribbean identity. In his sculptures, hybridization appears on several levels: a blend of materials, cultural references, and symbolic figures, producing highly distinctive totemic forms. – The artist and his world – KBÔ was born in Pointe-à-Pitre, originally from Sainte-Rose, and has lived in Paris since the 1980s. He trained in applied arts and at the École Boulle (interior architecture, design). His work asserts a Caribbean identity shaped by history, myths, turmoil, and traditions, which he translates into powerfully expressive sculptural forms. – Hybridization in his sculptures – He uses heterogeneous materials: plaster, metal, stone, wood, but also ropes, cables, corks, cowrie shells, door handles, threads, hemp fibers, and earthy pigments. This material hybridization is linked to a symbolic hybridization: his totemic figures are interlacing bodies, mysterious creatures, which question individual and collective memory, the “clash of civilizations,” and the mixing of identities. Artistic career: Silver Medal of the City of Paris in 1997. Exhibition at the Montluçon Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Group exhibition at the National Gallery of Dakar, “The Route of Memory.” “Talents of Guadeloupe,” Paris City Hall, 2011. Exhibition, La Casa Giotto Museum, Tuscany, Italy. On the program: exchanges and meetings within the studio and discovery of his works (graphic and visual arts). Free admission.
