La Chapelle des Sœurs – Le Petit Marché du Terroir

Présentation

The Sisters’ House and Chapel in Dienville is a former convent that housed a girls’ school founded by Elisabeth-Louise-Sophie de Vergès, widow of Viscount Alexandre-Antoine de Loménie. In 1824, the school was entrusted to three Ursuline nuns. The chapel, attached to the house, was built in 1846 at the request of the Marquise de Loménie de Brienne. At the end of the 19th century, the nuns were replaced by the Sisters of Saint Vincent de Paul, who took over the private school, an orphanage, and opened a dispensary. In 1928, Dominican Sisters of the Country took over the premises and opened a hosiery workshop that operated for a few years. Finally, the last nun left in 1975. Today, the chapel has found a new purpose thanks to a Dutch couple who fell in love with the village and the surrounding area. They transformed this space into a permaculture haven, cultivating vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Since August 1st, the Sisters’ Chapel has become the Petit Marché du Terroir (Little Local Market): a place for buying, meeting, and sharing.
