Présentation
In the same architectural style as the church of Lentilles, the timber-framed church of Bailly-le-Franc, built in the 1510s, is one of the most impressive. Built on the foundation of stepped roofs, it is dominated by a long spire covered with slate. Its nave, composed of four bays, is lit by a row of narrow bays framed by St. Andrew’s crosses fashioned by assembling wood. A variety of roofing materials can be found: the slate bell tower, the flat tile on the nave, the cladding of chestnut wood and battens. This building is one of the rare examples of a timber-framed church built in a single operation and having never undergone major alterations.
