Présentation
The church in Vendeuvre-sur-Barse will be exceptionally open on Saturday, August 22nd at 3 pm for a tour led by Artho and narrated by François Gilet, who will discuss the history, architecture, and decoration of this large building. Did you know that the parish church of Vendeuvre hasn’t always stood on its current site? Do you have any idea how long it took to secure the funding for its construction? Did you know that its bell tower served as a watchtower, that a guardroom was set up there, and that the inhabitants took turns during the Wars of Religion to keep watch? Do you know which major abbey the pulpit came from? Did you know that the building’s vaults, as well as its gallery and organ, were largely destroyed by fire following the bombing in June 1940? Have you ever seen its stained-glass windows, created in 1963 by Max Ingrand, which have earned it a place on the “Stained Glass Route”? Are you familiar with its statues, those from the 13th, 16th, 17th, and 20th centuries? Do you know why its large paintings can be attributed to Duviert, one of the painters of the Luxembourg court? Did you know that its chandeliers were made at the Spoy glassworks? If you would like to learn more about the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Vendeuvre, join us on Saturday, August 22nd at 3:00 PM.
