Join the conference led by Bruno Thommeray-Dumay, member of the Société Académique de l’Aube, member of ArTho, and one of the authors of the recently published book on finials. A historian of forests, among other things, but passionate about many other research topics, including clay production, he will discuss how he came across several statues, one of which, on the facade of Nouméa’s most prestigious building, comes from the Manufacture d’Art Chrétien de Vendeuvre. Why and how did it get there? With humor, our Indiana Jones’ investigation of Vendeuvre statuary transports us to the era of the island’s colonization. It ventures, from one twist to another, from the Troyes seminary to the twists and turns of the history of the penal colony.
